Maria De la Cruz – Life as a Summer Intern 2024 in the Marketing Team

Hi! Maria here 🇵🇪. I’m currently a ma-na-ma student at the KUL. After earning my MBA in Strategic Marketing Management last year, I got really interested in pursuing a Master’s in communications and digital media. Funny enough, that’s what led me to apply to Twipe:)

Why did you choose to do a summer internship at Twipe?

As an international, it is a bit difficult to find good English-speaking places to work (especially in Leuven)! So, although the vacancy was not yet open, I applied spontaneously. In fact, I chose Twipe because I had an academic background in Marketing, and this academic year 2023-2024 I was doing a second master’s in Digital Media. Thus, I found Twipe to be the right match which combined both academic backgrounds (and I was not wrong!). I was doing what I loved, marketing, but this time in the news and media industry.

Which projects did you work on and what stood out?

My role tackled various marketing activities, such as creating and designing social media posts, adding blog posts to their website, and managing email marketing campaigns. A bit before my internship ended I was tasked with enhancing Twipe’s employer branding on Instagram and LinkedIn, which has further developed my skills in copywriting, photography, editing, and content ideation.

Maria was a joy to work with—always eager to learn, open to feedback, and full of creative ideas.

How did you find the vibe at Twipe?

Twipe is a fast-paced work environment. You will have to work on different projects that will help you grow as a professional. It is so diverse that you do not get bored at all! And once you match the pace, you can start to take ownership and create projects of your own. There has to be a match with your personality, in my opinion. If you thrive on staying busy and engaged, this internship is the perfect fit for you! Oh, and be ready for constant feedback! This is how you learn every day 🙂

What is the key thing you learned during your internship?

Asking for different points of view. Sometimes, you feel that your vision is the only and right one but Twipe challenges you to leave your biases behind and ask others the way in which they perceive things. Especially if this is the first time that you are working in a new industry.

I learned the value of considering different perspectives. Twipe pushes you to look beyond your biases.

Would you recommend Twipe to future interns?

Yes! Besides learning a lot and gaining real hands-on working experience, you will share lots of good memories with your colleagues. They are all very fun and easy to talk to. If you are an international person just like me, you will perfectly fit in 😉
